I tried this FMF 1 1/8 PowerCore 4 Quiet Core insert into my FMF Q-4 muffler, but it's too long. The exit port would fit perfectly, but it bottoms out against the baffles inside the muffler. too big/long
And Dennis Kirk's tech dude said I wanted this instead:
but it's not the right flange
and has no predrilled hole to attach inside the muffler, as the existing one and the top one does, plus, it's not described as a "Quiet Core" (it's a "FMF Hex Q4 Quiet Core Spark Arrestor Insert") and what I'm trying to do is bring down the Db.
I'm not interested in racking up pointless shipping expenses, if these additions don't bring the volume down (I live and ride in a high density residential environment).
I don't have the machine tools necessary to do that cool and effective mod of marrying two inserts together that I saw elsewhere on this site.
Anyone with relevant knowledge? Is the difference worth the effort? Thanks for the help while I obsess... t
I installed the 1 1/8" quiet insert in my Q4, and was underwhelmed. It helped a little, but I still think it's a bit too loud. Wish there was an option between the OEM muffler sound level and the Q4 + insert. So is it worth it? Maybe. It's the best available option right now.
