FMF Q4 Install/Review

I ordered a Q4 from Amazon. I ordered it Sunday and it got here today, Thursday. I have a powerbomb header and dynojet kit on the way.

I am not a mechanic-I can change oil, adjust cables, etc, but I don't do valves or carbs. This pipe was really easy to install. Easier than installing luggage on my touring bike! I just removed the right-side plastic, loosened the metal strap holding the midpipe to the stock muffler, unbolted the muffler, and pulled it off. Then I used some needle-nose pliers to pull out the old gasket. Nothing to it.

You have to bend the metal guard by the right footpeg out a little bit. I used a crowbar which made it pretty easy. The Q4 doesn't require a gasket. You just slide it in there, tighten the metal strap, and bolt the new pipe to the frame. A final check for clearances and you're done.

I LOVE the sound of the new pipe. It's a lot deeper and more muscular. It's probably 10% louder but not obnoxious. I haven't re-jetted yet (that's coming next week), but I think it has picked up a couple HP. There is still a flat spot in the RPM range which I'm hoping the rejet takes care of. It pops a little on deceleration, but I like the way that sounds as well.

I had read some concerns about build quality and fit and finish, but the pipe is a really nice piece with a quality look and feel, and it lines right up on the bike. All in all a good purchase.

i ordered the power core 4 and mega bomb, ive heard good things, the jetting will probably take care of a few things... that carb is weak in its state. Can you just take the metal guard out.. i just got an 2010 and I need to get it out to CT to ride it.

Q4 here and megabomb.. couldnt be happier. 1.5 inch header is overkill but works so well :)
