Default Float Bowl adjustment with richer jetting

float bowl question,

Just wondering if anyone has tweaked their float to something other than kawasaki spec.

Once upon a time I installed a 132 main into my carb. When I reinstalled the carb, there was fuel pouring out of the overflow. Ooops, bad float bowl adjustment. Cracked it back open and dialed it in, no more leak. Bike ran fine, but began to notice some hiccups at wide open throttle. Before you say too rich, consider that I live at sea level and the temp is often 10c or lower...and I run the airbox with the lid off from time to time and have noticed no difference... aside from hitting a higher top speed and having lower rpms

Do I need to adjust (richen up) my float bowl to compensate for a higher main jet? I have since gone from a 132 down to a 128, science experiment. After some further research I now wonder if my float bowl was draining too quickly at WOT (132main) and wasnt engaging soon enough to offset the pressure exchange?

I feel like I have a loss of top end speed going back to the 128, and running without the lid doesnt seem to work the same....

A proper float level setting, especially on a KLX, should not result in consuming so much fuel so rapidly that it no longer supplies the needs of the engine. When you checked the float level did you do a static level check or a true fuel level check with a clear tube?

It would be interesting to see a 250 or even a 650 that could suck the float bowl dry quicker than it could refill... That would be one baaad KLX!

Have you checked to see if the fuel line is free flowing?

There's no way that can be the problem, B. Kinked fuel lines, plugged petcocks, and clogged fuel filters are a myth.

ill be sure to do the clear tube check, didnt think of that but had read it in the shop manual. as for kinked or blocked lines, i dont think that's the case as it seems to pour out like crazy when i forget to turn the petcock off :P

just put the 132 back in, dj needle on 3rd clip with one shim underneath to slightly richen, pilot 38 2 turns out

lid off

going to go for a test run tonight and pack the flathead bit with me finally dial in that fuel mix screw :P
