First Gen KLX250s vs First Gen KLR650A brakes?
Does anybody know if the brakes on the first gen KLX250s are far superior to those on the KLR?
The reason I ask is because the previous owner of my KLX250s added a braided front brake line and I love the feel of the brakes. If I exlusively add braided lines to my KLR do you think it'd be comparable to my KLX? Also here's a pic of my KLX brakes: http://i58.tinypic.com/1e86zs.jpg Aside from the lines are these completely stock? Thanks a lot guys. I don't have cash to dump on ineffective mods. |
The braided stainless lines will firm up any brake, especially if the stock hoses are getting on in years.

I put a braided front line on my '06 KLX. The KLX brakes were good in the first place, but I hated the stainless line running under the fork. The improvement was noticeable, but not huge.
Then I picked up an '06 KLR with 11K miles and added a stainless braided front line per recommendations from many (the KLR brakes are known for being weak). The new line noticeably helped. If I needed more, I'd go for the oversized rotor on the KLR. |
No way the KLR brake is as good as the KLX. I think it's a single piston brake where the KLX is twin piston. The KLX has more swept area at a larger diameter than the KLR, so it will be stronger regardless.
But you will not regret doing stainless braided lines on any bike with regular lines. They have far less line flex, making firmer braking. |
Thanks for the input guys. I'll add one asap then!
