Default Even if I were to buy a DS...

I have been searching the state parks website to see if there are any known dirt/off road motor trails in my area only to find nothing! all the parks and trails that the state owns are for hiking and non-motor use only. Are there any websites that would be helpful in finding areas that are off-road friendly? Like I've said before, having a dual sport would be fun, but only if I have a place to ride it.

Google for ORV (Off Road Vehicle) or OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) for areas near where you live. These are typically places where folks take their jacked up Jeep 4x4 rock crawlers and other trucks to have fun. They generally have good motorcycle riding too. While I prefer singletrack trails and such, it's also fun to explore around back roads and gravel or dirt roads. Some areas have lots of these around. Check your forest service also - forest service roads are generally closed to ATVs or other unlicensed vehicles. But some states allow licensed vehicles on them and a DS motorcycle would qualify.

Well, it seems as though there is only one official ATV/Dirtbike trail in all of Nebraska, and it's way out west of me! I did see some article (not sure how old it is) that said Nebraska approved some off road trails to be built, but I think I'll just stop by this local ATV/bike shop and ask them about where trails are in the area.

I don't know anyone personally who owns a Dirtbike or DS, so I'm sorta screwed there.

This may sound completely crazy. but here in NJ, delivery food is KING.
I always just ask thedelivery guy about local trails and they usually know.

I don't think that would work around here. I've never ever seen a food delivery guy on a bike. They always drive cars.

Hey. Haven't posted here before since with this knowledge base didn't feel like I had much to contribute. I live in Lincoln and was going through what you are now, a few months ago. Did a bunch of research, talked to all my motorcycle buddies and came up with this. The closest is in Iowa, near Council Bluffs and I think you need some type of Iowa registration from the state to ride there. The next closest place is Genoa, just west of Columbus. It's called Headworks and is ~1,100 acres of sand, dirt and trees with public access. Sounds cool and have a friend from there that says it's great. Sound like you already know about the stuff out west. A good resource is NOHVA (google) but they will want you to join for the map of all the areas. I did and have the map, so if you want to check it out, let me know.

Last weekend bought an 06 KLX 250s new for $4,280 out the door. Have on the way, Muzzy full stainless, jet kit, 13t C/S, K&N and will do the free mods when it all gets here. Not sure about pulling the snorkel, KDX high flow, or no lid. I think I'll use those mods depending where I end up on jetting for a little flexability in fine tuning. Also bought a #40 pilot jet just in case.

Greg

Currently:
06 ZX10R
06 KLX250S
06 Eton Viper 90R for the kids (and me, who am I kidding)

Welcome aboard Greg. Sounds like you are starting off with a bang. You are going to have a blast transforming your bike over the next couple of weeks. Good luck with all of the mods. You are starting in the right place.

Regards, Chris

Welcome to the forums, I'm surprised (but shouldn't be) to see a Lincoln rider with the same problem of having no trails near by. I'm gonna have a hard time justifying a DS if the closest place to have fun with it is in council bluffs. BTW, what dealer did you get your bike from for that price?
