Recently BMWHD posted a note with instructions on how to save a search on Ebay and have the results emailed to you every day. I took that idea and expanded upon it just a little bit, and thought I would share the results.

I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence, of course, and I know that there are folks out there that know a lot more about this stuff than I do, but in case there are some folks that don't know some of the more advanced searching techniques, I thought this might be helpful.

Here is the search string that I use to capture items relating to the KLX250S:

(klx, klx300, klx250, klx250s, klx300r) -110 -400 -125 -klx110 -drz110 -650

This captures any item that has "klx" OR "klx300" OR "klx250" OR "klx250s" OR "klx300r". It excludes listing that contain any of the words with the minus sign in front of them. The kicks out most of the items relating to these other model numbers. I am sure that there is a more efficient or elegent way to accomplish this search, but this seems to work pretty well.

I followed Todd's (bmwhd) suggestion and use the Save Search function for this search. Not only does it email it to you if you want, but you can also click on the search manually at any time and run it.

Hope this helps some folks. I just know that I was missing some stuff because my search criteria was too narrow.

 

Ill let you all in on my secret: Simplifies it even more.

Instead of that long first part just use this klx*

then all the exclusions you want, type them like this -(exclusion, exclusion,etc)

 

Duh! [:'(] I don't know what I was thinking forgetting that. I use wildcards when I search for stuff on my computer all the time, but for some reason it never dawned on me to do that for my Ebay search. Weird.

UPDATE:

Here is the new string I am using in case someone just wants to cut & paste:
klx* -(110, 400, 125, 650, klx110, klx400, klx125, klx650)

For the record, I tried using the wildcard (*) in front of each of the exclusion numbers instead of using 110 and klx110, for example. It didn't seem to like the wildcard in front, so I just listed them separately. If I am missing something, additional insight is welcomed (KLXer?).

And why not klx* -(*110, *400, *125, *650)

 

Ebay says:

Your search must have at least two characters before the asterisk (*). We have removed *110 from your original search.

 

With those searches I am getting a lot of klx110, klx650 etc. parts. What search is anyone using to narrow the search to klx300 and klx250s? Thanks
