Easiest way to remove carb?
 

Was wondering does anyone have a easy way to remove the carb to install a jet kit?
I had a hell of a time just to adjust the air/fuel screw, about dinged up everthing getting the muzzy off to get to the carb.[:@]

There is NO easy way.

Here is a step by step procedure on how to do whay you want to do. This is the best one I have seen.

To adjust the fuel screw I'd say loosen the clamps and remove the throttle cables and rotate it so that you can get to it from the left side of the bike over the starter, there is less in the way and you won't have to spin it so far. As far as removing the carb completely, yes that is about the best link you'll find for it. The first time it will take you a bit but if you have to do it later it will go much quicker.

+1 on the HMF Engineering link. I would recommend printing most of that thread for reference while you work. It made all the difference for me.

The only thing that bothers me about that HMF how-to is that they drill out the soft-cap with the carb OPEN!

Good point, KW. Luckily I had read from another poster (it might even have been you), specifically not to do that. I remember thinking as I was doing the work that I was surprised that they showed that step with the carb open. Other than that, though, it was extremely helpful.

I had that whole thread printed out along with selections from here and Advrider on just about every little detail. I had never done anything like that before and I did not want to make a mistake from lack of preparation. From reading many of the after-mod posts, it sounds like I was not the only person that got their first experience inside a carb while doing their KLX250S mods.

i was one of those people.... this is the first vehicle i have owned that has a carb on it... not being as old as some on here... all of the cars in my early driving days were fuel injected... so this whole carb thing is new to me too...

Hey, electric start didn't exist on any motorcycle I grew up with.

About the only cars with fuel injection were race cars equipped with Hilborn units! Until 1957!

Carbs are actually quite easy to understand and work on. Just have to think like a carb to understand what it needs!
