Ok, So im doing the BBkit.

Ive read and searched and read some more and my head is spinning with the wealth of knowledge on this site ...BUT I still cant decide what else to do for more oomph!

Does the web cams 101 with 351 make any worth while gains?
(read that MCM doesnt work with Big bore)

What about the adjustable CDI?

Thinking oversize intake valves and titanium retianers with a lil clean up and port matching?!? worth it or not??

Anybody with some or all these mods done, please let me know if its money well spent!!

Not worth it IMO. At the point of that much extra work and expense, you might do well to just get a KTM model with a street registerable title. When/if you do headwork like bigger valves, you're eating into the anvill-like durability of the KLX. A bigger bore, carb/intake mods, and exhaust mods already push the reality envelope for the engine in a KLX IMO. If you're really needing that much more power, put that money into the aforementioned KTM. You'll have less weight and way, way better suspension along with not too shabby reliability at that power level.

Don't get me wrong...I love my KLX. I've done a bigger bore, 36mm pumper carb, complete exhaust system and full suspension revalve. Throwing more money at this bike would not be logical IMO. If you have plenty of disposable cash and aren't worried about minimizing the reliability of the KLX, it could be a fun project. My bike as set up now will run for years with rock solid reliability but still yields a very usable and pleasant power increase. I go too far into the boonies by myself in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and west Texas to want more power at the expense of ultra-reliability. Your situation may vary.

I talked to Bill for quite a while one afternoon. If you want power into the 30's he knows exactly how to get you there as he has spent the time on research and dyno testing over the years to qualify his offerings. If I remember, just send him your head along with your cylinder and buy his porting and valves (He has it done by a 3rd party.), buy his exhaust system, and his carb.
At any rate, he is the go-to-guy for spending big bucks and getting big power.

big bore, full exhaust and cams should get you past 30HP (dynos are all different and all that) if that's what you want to do, but it does get expensive.

I would pass on any internal work to the head myself unless you are really trying to push the envelope and have deep pockets.

Big bore and full exhaust first I would say, then pumper carb then cams if you still feel the need for power.

Thanks guys for all your input. I am not looking to decrease my reliability just squeeze or masage out all of the power I can, within reason!

My KLX is my mini adenture bike as well as my street hooligan bike.... and being an SF model has also seen the go cart track!

As far as KTM goes there is a reliability issue, higher maintanence and cost all around. While Im out riding, the KTM guys are fixing something broken or performing maintanence and/or waiting for parts. These bike are more race built then street built. (Dont get mad Katoomers its been my experience)

If I wanted to go all out I would go with the 365 stroker!!
BUT me thinks reliability would be out the window!!


Soooo you guys believe cleaning up the head is not worth it and would sacrafice reliability?!?!? or is it the valve work?!?

Im a BIG Kawi fan and wish there was a street legal more reliable 450 to ride. By that i mean with maintanece intervals like the 250 and Klr 650. The Klx 450r would be nice add a 6speed... better electrical system...street legal... factory motard option ok, let me stop dreamin!!

One more thing Im tired of the Drz... everybodys got one!!
keep it comin guys Im still on the fence and want to do what is right while the motor is open. Thanks again!!

Maybe give Bill Blue a call and see what he has to say. Send him your jug and head and let him build them up for you.
