Does bike need to be on a stand to adjust CD/RD?
 

The manual says front wheel should be raised of the ground before adjusting CD on the forks. Really necessary? I'd like to be able to ride out to a stretch of trail with mixed terrain to do some tuning on the new front and rear springs.

The adjustment is just a needle valve in the hydraulic circuit-it doesn't have any spring pressure on it so you can make adjustments while it's resting on the wheels. Manual language is probably the result of lawyers getting involved.

If it makes you feel more comfortable then stick it on a stand. I think that it's directed more towards preventing you from having the bike fall over on you when making adjustments rather than preventing the valve from working properly.

It's interesting that the owners manual suggests to secure the bike on a stand while the service manual says nothing about that...maybe Kawasaki figures that if you are competent enough to service the bike you are skilled enough to dive out of the way if it topples over...hmmmm

I know what a CD is, we have a player for that, but what is a RD? is that a RD- or an RD+?

Just in case you're not joking. CD = Compression Dampening, RD = Rebound Dampening.
