Somebody at work has a street legal KLX 400. I have always noticed it from a distance and thought someone at work had a KLX like mine. I drove by it today and saw it was a 400. I was going to get on here and ask if Kawi ever made a street legal KLX 400, but as I write this I think I'm remembering that the KLX 400 was the one thats the same bike as the Suzuki Drz 400. Am I thiking of the right bike? What year did kawi/suzuki do that? Thanks Dan

 

Yes, the KLX-400 is a rebadged DRZ-400. None of them were factory street legal dual sports that I'm aware of. It would be easy to register and tag one though. Why you would want to do that escapes me with a factory DRZ street legal option being so easy to get.

 

Yes they were street legal just as a DRZ. It was a time that Kawasaki was in bed with Suzuki. ( Not sure who was on top!! ) Anyway the KLX400 was the exact same as a DRZ400. I almost bought a used one in KC while I was at our plant. Just would have been a pain to get it back home. Oh well, I have my beloved 250 now.

 

THanks guys. I was thinking it looked like it was factory legal, not a bad looking bike. Looks like it was made in 2004 per google.

 

It was street legal..and I believe you are right, it was only for one year...2004. A fellow co-worker has one...exactly the same as the drz400e?, but green. Including the same digital speedo w/o tachometer.
