Default Cool Storage?

Saw this new lockable tuff box at Walmart, sells for $17.50. Would be really handy mounted onto the rear rack. On top is a 1 gallon gas can, which fits easily inside with plenty of room to store lots of other stuff as well. Easiest way to mount would be to drill 4 small holes through the bottom and use heavy duty zipties to attatch it to the rack. Or you could spend a little more time and make a plate that goes under the rack, and another plate in the bottom of the container and then use bolts to clamp them together...or numerous other ideas.

Carrying a fuel can INSIDE that storage box is probably not a good idea. The fuel vapors will almost certainly permeate anything that you're carrying inside the box, such as camping gear or clothing. Additionally, should you be smoking when you remove the lid, you COULD have a bit of a flareup and singe your face.

Give it a try.....but be careful on the first few trips!

Anyone that smokes around gas vapors is taking their life into their own hands. The tuffbox, while probably good at keeping out water, is definitely not airtight, allowing the fuel vapors to exit out the top or the holes drilled in the bottom. I'm also not suggesting this as the best way to carry extra fuel, but a cheap way to add lockable storage, and the 1 gallon gas container puts the size of the storage in perspective.

gr8stdane just a heads up. You might want to look on this forum for several posts concerning the strength of the KLX sub frame. I have an 09 with no rack so I don't have any first hand experience with this topic but I have seen more than one post about cracked sub frames and more than one post about repairing/beefing them up.
