COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC - Changing Timing Belt on Honda Odyssey
 

Alright folks, I hope that this is not an abuse of this space, but I trust you guys' opinions, so I hope you don't mind me throwing in a none-KLX question.

My wife's Honda Odyssey is about due for a timing belt change. From what I have been reading, there are several other things that typically are changed at the same time since you are already in there anyway. Included in this list are the water pump, power steering belt, AC belt, TB tensioner, drive belt tensioner, crank and cam seals, coolant, etc.

Has anyone ever done this work on an Odyssey or similar vehicle. The most advance automotive maintenance that I have done is change the plugs and wires in my F150, which is no small feat as anyone who has ever done it will attest. I can learn, but I want to make sure this is a job that is do-able for a first time before I take the plunge.

good luck with that..... foriegn car parts are expensive to replace... at least from what i hear... i have always had gm...

Some of those timing gears are nylon, check on that.... id see if i could get a metal gear to replace it.. if it is nylon... never done that before...

What vintage Honda ? What engine ? The v6 has a automatic tensioner with 2 different styles of tensioners. after collapsing the tensioner style 1 you can use allen wrench to hold it style 2 has a special holder. Also on almost all Hondas the cranck bolt is so tight that you need holder for the dampner while using this holder then you can break the cranck bolt loose. On that Chevy you drive, did you get the latest offering?

The factory heated tailgate that they're offering for folks living in the northern states.

I understand it helps prevent frostbite when pushing the truck!


Yes, I drive a Ford F-150. Best truck on the road!

Except when you have to change spark plugs or wires.

However, I have found that the best spark plugs for the 4.6 are the Motorcraft plugs. I got tired of trying to find which cylinder was missing, so I now have a product that makes it very simple - AutoTap - http://www.autotap.com/ and no longer have a problem. It tells me which plug and / or wire is faulty. Plus I can do a "real-time" watch of the truck. It tells me whether the mixture is lean or rich, and every other parameter of the engine while I'm driving. Now if the KLX had this ability, we could get the jetting right on the money! Just imagine hooking something like this up, riding for the day and coming back and dumping the data. Oh, isn't that what Austin Coil does after every run for John Force?

Lets see a f-150 pull 10,500... ford engineers think backwards... gm's are easy... take this spark plug issue.... easy on mostly any gm motor... Ok lets go to thier slogans... ford is the most popular truck, best selling... mmmm.... and chevy's are the most dependable, longest lasting trucks..... I dont know about you but id rather have a dependable long lasting truck than have the truck everyone else has.....

Well, not to get into this fray, but I just got a 2007 F150 and it has several of those things built in. And I didn't get a top of the line model. I was pleasantly surprised to find it had MP3 CD capability and iPod input jack standard. And the rear seats do fold up in the Supercab. I did not get a nav system - I have my Garmin 276C for that and I can move it between my bike and my truck very easily, or in my wife's vehicle. The on-board nav systems are way overpriced, IMO.

One thing it DOES have that I wish it didn't is a hissing noise coming from the area of the air intakes. Doesn't happen all the time, just at the cusp of loading the engine. If you load it more it goes away and if you let up it goes away. I'm bugging the dealer about that noise - I don't think it is normal. It's not horribly loud but it is noticeable enough to be annoying to me. Other than that, I've got about 400 miles on it and am very happy with it. It even has those handy tie-down hooks in the back for securing the KLX. ;)

Sweet! Thats a nice looking truck... my truck has a intake noise too because i have an aftermarket air intake on it, most of the stock air intake's on vehicles are also air silencers.... so thats y mine is loud, thats weird that a stock one does it.... i think almost all 2006 and newer cars have an auxillary audio input... the manufactureres are realizing portable mp3 players and such, my wifes HHR has that also.
