Default comparison after the upgrades - dirt riding

went for a nice ride in the dirt, pits, sand, hills, etc this year after the 351 and pumper carb.. all I can say is what a difference.. although the bike (and my body) are heavier than the KX 125 2stroke I used to ride, I would say the power and ability of this bike to burn up sandy hills and fly across sand are comperable. I was scared at one point.. the bike just flies now. it gets up to rpm fast, stays there, and burns up the dirt like a 2stroke IMHO.

very satisfied now

my klx is stock, Sat I went and rode at the michgan CCC ride at the tomahawk trails. I was afraid to take my helmet off, didn't want people to know who was riding that slow nutless bike. I'd like to see this thread take off cause I'm starting to contimplate selling the bike. The weight to power just stucks. after 70 miles i couldn't pick the thing up after I dropped it. might put street tires on it and buy at KTM 200.

My KLX351 is 2 years old now and i haven't ridden my CRF250x in about that long. Saturday some of my riding buds decided to make a day of single track that was very tight trails and long sections of whoops,,, deep whoops.
I decided to take the lighter of the two bikes due to the fact we were not doing and high speed 2 track. Let me tell you,,,, I wish i brought the 351. that CRF beat the snot out of me within 2 hours of single track and whoops.
I compare it to getting out of a caddy and jumping into a pro stocker. the bike was not smooth, all the power on mid to top end and very twitchy like an Enduro bike should be. If you have ever ridden a CRF 250 you know what i mean. 2 weeks ago i rode a 2 day dual sport with a group of "enduro riders" who looked at my Kawi and kinda' blew it off, since they all were on shinny ORANGE machines. By the end of day one, they were asking me a bunch of questions about my little Kawi, and by the end of day 2, when i was up in front and passing a good many of them in the tight rocky stuff, they couldn't believe my Kawi was so agile. I really believe this CAN be the perfect bike if you do all the mods, and set up your suspension to your ability.
I wll be selling my plated CRF.

Yah, I love my KLX351 for anything that I've thrown at it.. It takes everything well. I love the bike. Did about 30 miles of singletrack yesterday, bike never missed a beat.

No disrespect Rat, but the thread is about modded klx performance. With a couple of mods, the bike is a beast.. yea, you should get a KTM if you are still riding a stock klx.. IMO just saying..

I am not hi-jacking the thread, but having owned a KLX, and moved on to an Orange one, the question is, why buy the KLX, then spend big $$ trying to turn it into something it isnt? I did a lot of the mods to my 07, except the big bore kit. No matter what I did, it was still a heavy, dual sport. I guess if your serious about off road riding, then go with the KTM, if you wanna play both sides of the road, the KLX is good. But the all $$$ to upgrade it?? I just didnt see the point.
Hope you enjoy your big bore kit !! I know Cousin Larry Spanks the snot outta his and its everything he wanted.

That's exactly why i prefer the KLX to my CRF. the CRF is way too much bike for pleasure riding. it is an all out enduro bike like the ORANGE bike. I bought the CRF for i think 7K OTD. and i still needed to mod it. I bought the KLX for $3300 and put another $700 in to it and am very happy with it. How much does a new KTM 200 cost????or a new CRF or a new WR???
Use the right tool for the right job i guess. For MY purposes, the CRF is like driving a nail with a sledge hammer. a bit too much for me.

Some people take some offense to me wanting a true dirtbike. I like my KLX, but up here the bike just doesn't cut it. I could put some money into it, but no matter what I do to it it'll never act like a enduro in the woods. The longer I ride the klx i realize it's a compromise. The stock tires were decent on pavement, would ride the bike 70 miles on the slab one way and not even thing about it.They sucked so bad on dirt that they got replaced with TM's. Now it's decent on dirt and sketchy at highway speeds. I'll probably end up keeping this bike forever as I could never afford to own a orange bike.
