Getting some sun and fun
Well, I was having a lot of fun on 1 of the sleds here at home,
Me and my buddy started banging on these machines good, just let it rip and keep the smiles smiling, and the adrenaline pumpimg
Keep it up baby !
Following Saturday, I was on a plane ( avoiding any landings in the East River) and landed in sunny but cold North Florida to visit my Dad.
Usually we play golf alot, and go to these rednecks speak easys called "the honkey tonk" to go "boot scootin" Its all fine and good, except I think golf is a stupid game, as far as I am concerned I win every game, BUT, being the stupid game that it is, LOW score wins ?? WTF ? And the whole "boot scootin" , well thats a bunch drunks trying to do a few disguised ball room dances, and line dances! M-kay
My brother was there early this winter, and bought a toy and left it there.
Thanks Bro, mind if I take it for a spin? Yea, sure, just a short spin!
Southbound and shivering
It was cold, but sunny. Day 1 temps never broke 60. This is Florida?
I was in a haul-***-mode. See how far south I could do in a day.
I caught the sunset half was across the Keys.
I had hoped to be on the main Island for sunset, just didnt happen, no biggy, but the wind was pickin up strong, and this beast is heavy. I thought about getting into a hotel/motel along the way, but anything with a vacancy sign looked pricey, ahh, screw it. Gonna see what It looks like down here in the dark. The 7 mile bridge, in the dark and wind, wasnt very scenic, no doubt.
Made it onto Key West and stopped in a hotel, on the water,
$299 a night. M-kay. Plug in the Devil Box, look, a Days Inn a 1/2 mile away, call em up, $99 HELL YA. I float the beast in for a landing (this feels like a really freakin big bike !)
Made it. 500 miles, day 1. Jacksonville to Key West. Time to eat and have a beer. (or 3)
Had a plate of shrimp, couple of Sammies, and ta-da, second wind.
I decide to be smart for once in my life and lock my junk into the safe in the room and take a cab to Duval Street. Dam, even on a cold February night, there is a party. I was gonna be good, but that wasnt the best idea, I ended up drunk and entertained, no doubt.
Morning come early, seeing I missed the sunset, I had to do the sunrise. I was up and on the bike, ready to light it up, and I hear a freakin Rooster? WTF? I hear another, and another. Is this someones Idea of a joke? We aint exactly out in the backwoods, are we?
Out I go, and as expected, the sunrise is simply amazing.
I mean, simply magnificent, It sure dont look like this back home. WOW.
I was lovin this, the wind had diminished, the sun was out, the basket people from Duval Street had vanished, I almost felt alone.

Thought I was seeing double, I was, double double.
Is this a typical phishin skiff around here?
I watched a Cruise ship dock and found it pretty intersting, until I realized that about 1500 bored tourist were gonna swarm the island. C-ya. Hit Starbucks ( YESSSS !!! A bold drip grande with a double black eye please )
And I was away. I probally didnt stop enough for pictures, but I was just soaking up the warm sun, and the sights I missed last night while I was on the hammer.
Beautiful down here, no doubt. I saw a TON of For Sale/rent signs and had to stop and poke around, just to see whats what.
Pretty relaxing areas, everyone has a canal in there back yard, and a hoist and garage for there skiff. Pretty Nice
Might have to see if I can find a vacation home here someday.
Well, after a few hours of drifting, I figured I better get moving, I had some miles to cover, but for some reason, I was just not into hurrying, I was relaxed, finally.
The sun was warm, the views were awesome, the waitress at the lunch stop was pretty AND friendly ! ( were do they find them ??)
I had to shake the lattitude attitude and get my azz in gear. I hit Key Largo around 2;30, and wanted to make it to Cape Coral before dark, as the weather was predicted to get into the low 40's, high 30's after sundown. Bbbrrrr
Hammer time. I think I made myself a bit late so I had an excuse to ride fast !!
I bogeyed over the alleyway
Had to stop and take a picture of this ugly bastard.
Or was it this one?
Naturally I didnt get to Cape Coral until 7:30. Yup, it was cold, thermometer showed 38 when I pulled in for the night
Naturally he wanted to go out, have a few Sammies, and get some Bar-B-Q. Dam, yous guys got that stuff down !
Dummy left the cameral back at the house, for some reason, cameras, bar rooms amd drunk people dont always work for me.
Morning shows up pretty early here also, but there sure is a nice canal behind the house to set and drink coffee
The weather was ccc-cccold. 36 degrees during coffee,
and I had to hit the road, needed to be back in town tonite or tommorrow morning to get a plane.
I planned to take my time and ride up the middle of the state, through the citrus meadows, and up into Ocala and through the National Forest. It was not very comfortable, it was to cold to be doing distant riding. After several hours churning my way through the middle of the state, I got to Winter Haven, and had a choice. Stay on the back roads and stop along the way, or hit the slab and drop the hammer and barrel *** back to Jacksonville. I wimped out. 90 mph cruising through Orlando and Daytona, just seem to make the warmest sense.
As it was getting dar, air temp was 37. Game over
1111 miles in 2-1/2 days.
I would do it again in a heartbeat
But man, I can not even wait till I can dig the KLX outta hibernation
