Clacking ? ?

Maybe he's just talking about the slight knocking you hear if you load up the engine under 4000RPM. I think the engine is sort of stalling and the spark is too advanced for that heavy load. My sportbikes never liked being pushed hard at lower RPM's. Part throttle was OK, but giving it much more than 20% throttle would make a sort of knocking sound. I've always associated it with having the revs too low for the load your tring to push. It's not a Brigs and Stratton lawnmower engine, let her spin a little.

Ok ........ The sound that I'm refering to is the sound the engine makes while in LOW rpm "mostly first/second gear" . It's not a rattling sound, it's more knocking/clacking sound. Ive talk to a few people whom own klx3oo, it makes the exact same sound/noise as does the klx250s. It's pretty much just the sound of the klx250s engine. I also listened to a few Videos of the klx300 going up a tight steep hill and th rpm's got lower that bike made the sound that is was talking about . I'll try to find the link of that video, jusr can't remember which site i saw it on .
Regards,
OK !
Found the video. Listen very carefully at the sound of the Clacking the bike makes while just disapearing ontop the hill. that's the sound in refering to . He didnt seem to change gears while aproaching the top so its a pretty good indication
Heres the link. tell me what you think.

In this second vidoe you can hear the same sound "clacking/knocking" just before the video ends.

My bike does the same. It was so bad in fact I had the dealer come and get me just a few miles down the road. I have a little over 500 miles now and am getting used to the noises and learning (slowly) how to not bog it down too much. Put some miles on her. This bike is great fun.

Good'ay. New to the forum.
I think you'll find that the noise you talk about is the automatic decompression thing on the exhaust cam and is nothing to worry about. Just make sure that you are not labouring the motor too much so as to cause preignition or pinging

I just had to drop in and say thank you for this thread.
My brand new 2010 KLX was doing the same thing. Since during the first 500 miles you have to keep the RPM under 4000, the issue happens frequently. I was afraid I had damaged the engine during break in, or maybe I was using the wrong fuel. After reading this, I feel much better now. The issue should go away as the engine gets broken in, and as I'm able to increase the average running RPM once the engine is broken in.
I hope anyone else trying to understand the problem finds this page.
Thank you again for this thread.

If you're using regular, try premium in the next tankful, and see if the sound goes away.
The videos wouldn't load for me. But after reading the posts, I assume the clacking noise is engine knock. The KLX engine is not one to take a load under 3.5k rpms. Try downshifting when a hard accleration is needed or try a higher octane fuel on the next fill up. If you are driving slow in a techenical trail and 1st or 2nd are the primary gears, try changing the chain sprockets out to lighten the torque on the engine (either down the # of teeth on the drive sprocket or up the # of teeth on the wheel sprocket).
