Cheng shin C858 rear tire

I just got the C858 rear tire in the stock size. It was $39 out the door. I have been intrigued by this tire for a while because of the price and tread pattern. I put it on last Friday and went out and rode a little off-road with it. My first impression riding to the trail was that it handled like the stock 603, which means my bike goes around corners again. [sm=bounceybounce.gif] On-road, the tire is very smooth and quiet. Off-road, the tire worked really well. I ride mostly sand trails and this tire spins a little then hooks. The stock 603 never really hooked on these trails. Anyway here are some pics. Notice the center of the tire. The knobs are very close together which makes for the smooth ride. The knobs are 1/2" deep.

I was thinking of getting that tier a week a go. but I got the 606 instead. I didend think that that tirer would handle that good in the sand.

Be sure to keep us informed of how it wears, although for $40 OTD its not a huge concern.

I think Cheng Shin tires tend to be passed by because of their name and lack of names for their tires but what I've used from them were great tires. I had a 25x13x9 knobby on the front of my '85 Honda Big Red 250 3 wheeler and that tire grabbed incredibly both in braking and steering. I had C828's on the rear of my '87 Yamaha Warrior 350 4 wheeler and those had excellent forward bite and flotation for being 22x11x9's not to mention, with the flat profile they hooked up great in the corners but you could still pitch it sideways and they were very predictable and not likely to traction roll.

Anyway back on topic, 2 votes for these tires so far. After I get back from SC there might be one of these headed my way in the stock size.

Well I ordered one and its sitting in the garage however in my Benadryl allergy haze I ordered a 4.10-18 not a 4.6-18. So looks like I'll have to call the shop tomorrow and see about getting a replacement ordered. Thankfully they overnight all their orders but looks like I'm without a bike till at least friday.

I love the Trak Master II - it is an exceptional tire, regardless of price.
