Carb wire

I have a 2006 klx250s that had a wire attached to the left side of my carb. I unpluged it and put in a carb without the plug. What was that wire for? How Important is it? and what will it hert if I leave it off if anything?

i believe the only sensor on the carb is a throttle position sensor.

The only influence that I've heard it has on the bike is a small timing alteration based on the throttle position.

The wire to the carb is the throttle position sensor. Only effects the ignition timing and can be safely disconnected and not used if needed. Thou on mine, I leave it. It helps advance the spark timing when under 5k rpm's and you jab the throttle.

I thought Ray Cour put his ignitor on a test bench and found that the TPS dosen't actually do anything on those bikes ?

Maybe i is mistaken ...

I notice it's not on all models in other countries. Seems odd Kawasaki would go to the trouble of installing this additional wiring and hooking it up to the igniter if it didn't do a little something...maybe even in an emissions and timing manner. On Ray's measurements, it's possible his TPS was dead or it may not be as easy to qualify the influence on the igniter.

I'm pretty sure of my conclusions when last year I tested the CDI and found no influence of TPS. TPS was good, it has been used all summer long on the FI conversion. The accuracy to which I can measure with my setup is better than 1 degree.

You guys make me wonder if I could have missed something, so I will check again as soon as I can, probably this weekend.

Yep, yours, the European model, and probably others don't have it. Being that the U.S. and Canadian model seem to be the only ones that have it, I'm still thinking it's a timing mechanism with an emissions purpose.
