One more thing... Why would it be neccessary to 'red sticker' an off road CRF250 or 450X when it's total 'carbon footprint' is going to be much less than the average Harley Davidson? If environmental factors are key then why wouldn't a legislature be more restrictive of the use of a Harley if it's total carbon output is much greater?

Answer: You shouldn't ride off road because Bambi lives there.

This whole 'carbon footprint' scheme is nothing more than an evil attempt for governments around the world to either tax us to death or limit our personal freedoms.

" I am running my KLX completely illegal and have been pulled over by the police and they do not know what to do."

Man that just sounds bad.... that whole post mocks the margins we all get by with from time to time when out having fun.

And the Sierra Club could use that as a slogan to close more riding areas "and they brag about getting away with it!. Well lets fix that send a fax to Such&such state govenor, the police dept in such&such county doesn't know what to do w/ illegal bikes. Send that dept back to training school, and the commanding officer too".

Next thing ya know, the areas police funding quadruples- then there are now more of them riding around on newer tricker machinery to come and nit pick your illegally modified bike finding your not so legal riding area.

Haha Welcome to Kalifonia.

Default Over Regulation

NY is pretty tough, but not like CA. Pretty soon you'll only be able to ride electric dual-sports out there...Yikes!

We have a NYS DEC ranger near our camp who is a real B-tard when it comes to machines being all legal. Makes me wonder if he's going to jump in my turds for having a muzzy and some carb mods. Probably not, but you never know. Some of these guys are hell bent for dweebing their job so well that they ruin the fun for everyone.

With that said...now that gas prices are starting to soar more and more people will be on bikes (duals esp. because they are so practical).

What about a Super Sherpa?...I rode one in a rider course and liked it a lot. Very well balanced. Basically an air cooled version of the KLX. Kawi stopped making them in 2003 I think, but there are plenty of good units out there if you look around.

LOL

BINGO! That was exactly the rationale that I used when I told my wife that I was gonna buy a dual sport. I told her that gas prices would be $4 a gallon this summer and that we needed to prepare. She wasn't happy about me riding a motorcycle on the street but I bought the bike this past February much to her chagrin. I saved a bundle of money on commutes

California's emission requirments suck!
I have my 2006 registered in California, it came in under the 7500 mile loophole. We wont discuss how it got 7500 miles on the odometer but it has the CA plates!

thats why high 20's and 30 somthing is considered good (old school Hondas and Geo's get 50-with 1980's tech- but "too many bad JuJu's")

IMOA its a stupid way of thinking.
Fuel companies got you again!
Agreed. Too many regs for CA.

Don't tell me it had something to do with an electric drill?
Let's just leave it at: "The bike looks real nice for having over 7,500 miles on the meter."
