Default California Banned KLX

Folks,

Can anyone tell me why the '06 and '07 KLX could not be legally registered in CA? I understand all of CA's crazy emissions restrictions but I can't see why a one piston 250cc engine that can get upwards of 70mpg would be outlawed for street usage when much larger gas sucking engines are perfectly acceptable. Even now the CRF250X is 'red stickered' for a good portion of the year and that's off road only. Does CA have an inherent bias against dirt bikes or what? To me that's the only thing that can explain their absurd policies with regards to these bikes. Thoughts?

Kawasaki didn't install all of the necessary emissions garbage to make the 06 and 07 models legal for sale in California and fuel economy has next to nothing to do with what comes out the tailpipe.

That's what I was thinking. I can't believe something like the KLX would be banned but my Dad's 2000cc Vulcan is legal. It's not like the KLX is a two smoker.

Too bad OR & WA are going to follow CA right down this road..........
some engineer made up some rules about how much of this or that comes out compared to engine size. It doesn't matter what your VEH get for MPG.
thats why high 20's and 30 somthing is considered good (old school Hondas and Geo's get 50-with 1980's tech- but "too many bad JuJu's")

IMOA its a stupid way of thinking.
Fuel companies got you again!

Oh pardon me, did I forget to mention that you're preaching to the choir?
Makes absolutely zero sense to me either.

Default Kentucky Laws

Everyone, move to the Bluegrass State as there are no laws whatsoever here. I am running my KLX completely illegal and have been pulled over by the police and they do not know what to do. As long as you have a license, insurance, a license plate (no matter how it is attached), a taillight and a headlight you are legal here. No emissions testing and the DMV does not even exist in this state.

God bless the South!

I'm guessing that it's basically the same way in most places though. Once you buy the bike and do the mods, nobody in law enforcement cares about what turn signal or muffler you have on the bike as long as it's safe, registered and you're not riding it like an idiot. It would be a huge burden on law enforcement to have to police the ridiculous and gratuitous environmental whims of a state legislature that has nothing else to do but pass draconion rules and regulations.
