Why not just throw a set of rings in it?

09'Kawi250s 06-14-2011 03:26 AM

is that all it needs?

Have you mic'd the piston and cylinder? Do you have the engine apart? If not, you might just find a broken oil ring or such...or maybe bad valve guides...or something else. You should not be just switching pistons until you mic the old piston, mic the cylinder bore, and check for obvious ring or valve guide issues. Sounds like you're shooting in the dark.

Edit: Oh...and 15,000 miles isn't normal for a worn out piston/cylinder under any normal circumstances on this engine. Sounds like something fairly serious occurred.

whats mic? ok thanks for the info

Unless something has critically failed, there should not be the need to replace the piston to solve an oil burning issue (esp at 15,000 miles). In my humble experience, and based on limited info, you're more likely to have a leaking valve stem seal, or worn valve guide, than a piston/ring problem.

I have a stock piston with about 1,000 miles on it. You can have it. Just pay me back for the shipping.

I would recomend replacing the valve seals while your at it. Its not to hard or expensive. I could describe my method to convert a drill press to a valve spring compressor. (Yes I should have taken pics)
