Which bike next?
 

Wondering if any KLX owners who have multiple bikes or maybe just still hang around here after getting a new bike have any opinions on what a good step up from the KLX is. I'm just not getting enough torque with 14/45 and gearing lower will be problematic for me on the highway. Anyone here go from KLX to any of the 650 singles, a DRZ, or any of the Euro bikes and have any thoughts or comparisons to offer?

my next bike would be an FZ/MT 09 as a first choice otherwise the 07 would do fine.
atm i want to stick to the klx since it is an easy daily driver to deal with.

As gorgeous as those FZs are I'm not sure how they would do crossing a stream :D

recently places i can go offroad have been less and less so i mainly drive on road these days.
the reason i got the klx was that when i want i can take me in nature and not just to nature, and also be an easy daily driver since i do not own a car or want one.

Oddly enough, that is my brother's combination. I think he has the FJ09 though. His street/two up ride is the Yamaha, his dual sport is a KLX250. Like me, he rode a 650 dual sport for a long time. He went small before me, getting a CRF230. Problem was it just wasn't a decent dual sport for an experienced rider, so he went KLX250S

I was going to post here saying my "next bike" was the KLX250, coming from road bikes and a KLX650 in the recent past. I rode my brother's KLX250 and it was like riding a mountain bike - loved it and could see it as my dual sport and my KLX650 modified to a supermoto for my road bike.

Next doesn't always mean bigger. After so long a rider eventually sees next as being picking the most suitable bike for what they do.

i know a couple trading in their big bikes for ninja 400 and a R3 since you can pound em all day and not go to fast every gear.
the bikes they are trading in are gsxr 750 and a R1.

Isn't it all about weight, power, and capability..? If you want everything your KLX250 is - but better - you get a used WR250R or KTM EXC.. If you think you'd like to enjoy throwing around big weight and bigger power on single tracks, then you can get the Japanese 650's and 400's..

I either own, or have owned, many of the choices above - Lots of peeps think they can handle heavy bikes (325lbs and up) offroad and be happy... Try not to be one of those peeps. Capability offroad decreases as weight increases. WIth 50 years of offroad experience, I can ride my Ducati Monster offroad with no problems at all - but as with a XR650/KLR650/you name it/ , it is no fun at all - it's work, hard work...

I have a Versys 650 for the pavement. The 351 cyclinder with a 13/45 combo gives you planty of power,
70MPH n the road or dirt if you dare. I've had a KLR and they work great for both, tho heavy to pickup
when the dirt or gravel fails you.

KTM, Husqvarna and Beta all make street legal dirtbikes now.
