Default Big Bore Kit Questions

My bike is coming up on 1 year old and I’m pondering a big bore kit. I’m leaning towards the 330 to 340cc increase. B&B has the 331 and 340cc with a marginal difference in price while Kustom Kraft has the 330cc for $789.00. Do any of you have feedback on either one of these? I know the saying – you get what you pay for, but $290 to $300 difference in price…

Dont quote me but I think the Kustom Kraft one is more expensive because it has a nikasil sleave.... Bill's kits are steal sleave's...

why go 330cc or 340cc when you can go 351cc???

^^ spot on.

The KK has the special Nik lining, therefore the higher price. Some folks swear by it, but I'm guessing more for race applications. I suppose someone could get BB's and have it lined if they were really into that.

And as asked above, why not go all the way with 351?

330 is dry sleeve, 340 not sure, 351 wet sleeve. There have been a couple failed sleeves on 351's. Dry sleeve may give you more peace of mind if you worry about stuff like that.

340 and 351 are wet sleeved in Mr. Blue's offerings. I went 331 for the extra piece of mind, but, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't shy away from the 351. Problems with the 351 have been minimal (and often due to installation error), and not due to a design problem. I'm not sold on the Nikasil coating...warranty only a year, and all the extra expense? I could have a new liner pressed in if something happened to my Bill Blue sleeve setup.

my only hang up with the 351 is the couple of head gasket issues that have been posted on this forum in the last month or so.

I'm still a couple of bones shy of ordering my BB kit but i'm prolly go with the 331 kit since it might be a better trade off for high rpm power since i'm looking to run my bike as a sumo.

If you keep your original cylinder you will spend the same as a KK. Bill's price will go up by $175 with a core charge. KK has no core charge, you keep your cylinder.

My 331 kit is identical to the KK kit, and it only costs $499.95 with cylinder exhange. Yes it's Nikasil and not a wet liner. I have one in stock at the moment.

The KK kit is a brand new cylinder bored and nikasil, that's why it's more expensive.

what brand of pistons and gaskets does your kit come with ? What kind of compression does the kit have ?
