Smile big bore is in

just finished the kustom kraft 330 kit today on my 09. yeah, im keeping this thing. to anyone who hasn't upsized a bit....do it. took about 6 hours to rip into it and re install everything important. waited overnight to fill fluids and put on tank, carb and plastics. smog stuff went in the spare parts box. took a little cranking but fired right up and a quick carb adjust I was on my way around the niebourhood staying close to home just in case. after 10 minute ride, let cool and checked coolant and oil levels. went for another 20 minute ride a couple hours later. couldn't resist a couple of power wheelies in second and third, which was not possible before. breaking it in over the next couple days in town then off to the hills. been looking at pumper carbs but I think I might put some miles on first. I know im late to all of this klx mod stuff but it has been worth it so far. im happy. bike just rolled 1000kms, or 600 miles. also thanks to all that posted install pics of their big bore installs, it actually helped and with the manual when I started ripping into it, it seemed like I had been in there before

wanted to keep the old jug having no miles on it. nothing against sleeve or plated cylinders having both been around for decades, just didn't want a sleeve cut into the water jackets. been talking to an old semi retired machinist who use to bike a lot about big bores and he thinks he can wittle one up out of a solid piece of aluminum and have it up around 385cc. a lot to consider though and I want to ride this summer, not have a pilot project going all year. researching it though. this guy made a 330 kit for his xr 250 back in the day. he is an amazing guy who got a few trade tickets in england making engines for rolls Royce before moving to Canada. we will see this winter.

Ah, you're up in Alberta. Saw your pics, shotgun and fly fishing. Always looking for some places to take my daughter someday. Looked remote and fun. Hoping to venture into the northern cascades this summer once my big bore is finished too. Keep the pics coming, very inspiring. Someone did something in Death Valley(?) right after their BB project. Great photos.

The 351 jug completely transformed the bike. It was acceptable stock but the added displacement makes riding a blast. On the street it handles traffic effortlessly and the added grunt makes dirt riding a hoot. I'm going up a tooth on the c/s sprocket to take advantage of the added torque. I think that this has been the best addition you can make on this bike.

Interesting, but yes a big undertaking, new headgasket, new piston... lots of stuff to do, its not as easy as just making a cylinder, but you know that. Id be curious to see if it pans out.

I have the 300 kit on my EFI and was stoked. Now I want more and about to pull the trigger on the 331. Question.. will the extra 30 cc make a difference?
