Aftermarket exhaust that doesn't need repacking?

Is there any aftermarket exhausts that doesn't need repacking? Or ones that need it after a significantly longer period of time?

Possibly a packing that lasts way longer than the stock stuff in most exhausts?

I really don't want to be repacking a muffler every 2 months or so, but I do want the performance and nicer sound over the stock straw mounted on my 250SF right now.

I don't know of any that don't have packing but you don't have to do it that often. I think FMF says 200 hrs. and not many do it that often.

I read 10-20 hours for FMF.... that's why I'm concerned.

Another source said 10-15k Km.

I found a Leo Vince exhaust that apparently doesn't need packing as often, not sure why.

I think my FMF Q4 said around 20 hours. I read somewhere (not this site I think) that someone he had over 6,000 miles without repacking. I assume if you don't repack it just gets louder, is this correct? Could it damage the exhaust?

My mistake it's been awhile sine my install. I've had an FMF powercore 4 for about 10 months and 3000 miles and it is just starting to sound like it's a little hollow and might need it.

Ok I have real world proof on this subject. I bought the Muzzy full system for my 06 and it was installed at about 1000 miles. At 10,000 miles I called Muzzy to order the repack kit. The guy on the phone who you would think wanted to sell me this thing, asked me how many miles on the bike, I told him 10,000 and he said and I quote, "it doesn't need repacking." I ordered it anyway, and when I took the pipe apart, it looked nearly new! He was right, problem is once you take it apart, you can't without great difficulty get the packing back in, so I went ahead and used the kit. That was 5,000 miles ago, I'll consider another repack kit at say....40,000 miles. :)

That's interesting. Frankly, of all the aftermarket pipes/mufflers I've had on bikes over the years, I've never repacked any of them. Most were Supertrapp units on 4-strokes, that while having a disc system, they almost all also have ceramic packing. I have the same Muzzy setup as yours, and I haven't noticed any sound increase at all. Your findings may explain that.

@Borg: “Is there any aftermarket exhausts that doesn't need repacking?”
------------------------------------------------------
In my experience with Hindle, 2-Bros, Akrapovic, & Mac pipes, I have never come across an aftermarket silencer which has ever required repacking. I ran a V-twin through a Hindle for ~80,000km and 15 years without issue. Accordingly, I have never personally understood what all the discussion regarding ‘re-packing’ is all about…

Back in the days of two strokes with their gooey spoogey exhaust you would get oil soaked packing that had to be replaced since it was no longer fluffy and sound absorbing. Some riders lugged the engine a lot with heavy oil ratios and would goop their packing sooner. These were the guys that always had a blue cloud following them. Modern bikes, premix oils, and better riders can really extend the interval.

4 stroke bikes are totally different. I'm thinking the muffler manufacturers have one set of directions that apply to all bikes.

i dont think its necessary to really ever re-pack an exhaust.i have 17,000 miles on my 2 bros and it sounds the same to me
