Finally made it to 50,000 miles on the KLX. Sorry, no action shot. It was dark and rainy.

Lot's of tires, some oil, and a bunch drivetrain parts later the thing is still reliable as a Timex.
No sign of anything wrong, except some tired bearings.
The cams look brand new.
I do believe Mark's, aka KLX678, KCCT has really helped the longevity of the motor, at least it helps preserve the top end.
I thought I would big bore at some point, but now I won't do it until I do a complete rebuild...just want to see how far we can go on the stock motor.

Here's a pic of the tortured beast all ready for winter with the Bar Mitts (over my Barkbusters), windshield, and studded tires. It still needs new side plastic, one is melted, the other is cracked.
I also want to add a fuse box to control the rats nest of accessory wiring coming off the battery. I have three leads for heated gear and one for my volt meter. Getting them all on the battery is getting to be a pain.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Congratulations! That seems like a whole lot riding on a KLX250.

Congrats on the mileage! That's a lot on a 2012, I have just over 55,000 on my 94 klr 250. I bought it with 4k on it and the rest are my miles over the past 8 years. How do you rack up so many miles?! I use mine for mostly commuting to work although I have done several 2,000 + mile trips. Did you put all of those miles on it? Glad to hear it still has it's stock 250 bore. I went in search of power when I picked up my 06 klx several years ago with the 351. Does it consume any oil between oil changes? My little klr 250 uses about 8 ounces on average every 500 miles. More if I spin it above 7,000 rpms for extended periods of time. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.

25 mile commute one way, 5 times a week, almost all year; and then I ride on the weekends. And I've ridden to S.Carolina (from NH) and back, twice, and once to Cape May, NJ.
It does use some oil, but I think most of it is going into the airbox on those 7000rpm runs to work. If I could, I'd slow down long enough to confirm that hypothesis.

Wow! How many chains?

50,000 miles is awesome, especially for a 2012. Can't wait to see the 100,000 photo.

7 or 8 chains. They lead a hard life. They get lubed a lot, but also see lots of sand, dirt, and salt in between each cleaning. I should clean and lube each time, but in the winter that doesn't always happen.
