47T Rear Sprocket

Yesterday the temps were near 60 here in NJ and I finally got out in the woods (1st time since Nov) and tested out my new 47T sprocket. I am now running 13/47 setup and it is doing everything I want to do. On the single tracks I no longer have to keep shifting up and down between 1st and 2nd. Also, I got up to 60 mph around 9k rpms. Next, I'm getting the suspension tuned to my weight, a svelte 205 lbs. Had a great day of riding with my son!

Nice, I've been running that gear this winter...excited to use it on the trail...after 4' of snow melt.

Yep, a great gear combo. Interestingly it's basically the same as the KLX300 at 14/50. In fact I'm installing a new 14/50 setup next month.

I was in the Pines this weekend myself, and was also considering going either 13/47 or 14/50. I recently changed to a 13 tooth up front and its an improvement, but still a little tall for a dedicated trail bike.

How many links is your chain for the 13/47 setup?

The stock chain is too short so I bought a 120 ling chain and cut it. Let me count the remaining links and I let you know. Where are you in NJ? I am in West Creek.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate that. I'm in Mullica Hill. I'd been riding the KLX to Wharton and going in at Fleming Pike in Hammonton on the West side of 206 - its about a 35 minute ride for me. The 13 tooth with stock rear was a good compromise for the street & dirt.

The last two times I've gone I towed the KLX on a bike carrier. I think that's what I'll do from now on so it opens up more dirt-only gearing.

I ride all over the eastern end of Wharton, east of Harrisville Falls and Bass River. A lot of nice trails out there. Also a lot of trails around the Warren Grove Bombing Range east of Route 539 and north to Route 72 and continue east through Stafford Forge to the Parkway and on to some trails west of Route 9 into my town. There are several hundred miles of good riding in this area to include access to a great sand plant. I live about a mile from the entrance to the woods. If you’re ever going to be in the area, let me know. Be happy to show you around.

Thanks Pine, I'd appreciate that. We had a blast this weekend and plan on going back plenty this year.

Pine Barrens 03-24-2014 09:55 PM

I took off five links.

MaximusPrime 03-24-2014 10:20 PM

I'm using a 108 link chain.
