What RPMs are you at crusing at 60mph? I'm just a tad above 5k rpms. Seems a little high for 14/42 gearing.

My buddies all have rockets and I can't be wound out like that riding with them. Any suggestions on sprocket combinations? I'll gladly take a loss on the low to add to top end.

Another thing, my throttle is sticking a little bit. I doubt that it's the carb because the bike has very few miles on it since I last had the carb apart and cleaned. At a quick glance, I didn't see a good way to get lubricant into the throttle cable. What is the best way to go about lubricating the throttle?

Are those longer stroke? Stock mine is more like 6k at a true 60. 5k at 60 is pretty low actually. You aren't really wound out. It should be strong to 8k really and that is going pretty fast. The standard thing to do is go to a 15t in the front however and that might get you 500rpm but other better chime in on that as I have not done the math.

I run on the highway at 6k it seems pretty sedate.

I am glad you asked about the throttle since mine seems to have a bit of drag but it feels like the actual throttle not the cables.

I have stock gearing, so same as you, and at 60mph I see 6k rpm in 6th gear.

My Numbers:

40mph= 4k
50mph= 5k
60mph= 6k
70mph= 7k

No different from when it was a 250, but now I can get to 80MPH:D.

If all your buddies have rockets.... you need new buddies. I have mine geared for the woods. 14/45. I think its perfect with the 351. Stock 250 i was running 13/45.

Motor size makes no difference on speed at certain RPMs - that's all in your transmission.

Check that your left inside of your grip on the throttle side isn't rubbing on anything. I've found that to be sticky throttle problem more than once. THe grip moves a bit to the left, which starts rubbing on your kill switch housing.

It depends upon which tires I have on the bike. Some of the taller knobby-types read slower on the speedometer, and some of the smaller rear tires read higher on the rpm's at a given GPS speed.

Go one tooth larger on your countersprocket if you'd like...you won't need a new chain...and/or, go smaller on your sprocket. At some point, you will need a new chain, but, you may find you get out of the sweet spot of the bike's power curve if you change too much, and, you'll lose some of the low rpm hard pull that you were used to.

Doesn"t the SF have a 38T in the rear? I have a 15T in from and was thinking about going 38T for the street.

14/39 for the SF.

I remember seeing a list of bikes' sprockets that are interchangeable with ours. The 250 Ninja was one of them correct? What I think I will try first is swapping out the 14T CS for a 15T CS. I'll be at 15/42 than.
