A little help please!!!!
What gasket sealer did you use for assembly? I read here to use Gasgacinch for the base gasket but i havent been able to find it locally. Is the another brand readilly available that works as well???? Thanks,, I plan on making this my weekend project. |
If by base gasket you are referring to the the one on the base of the cylinder no sealer required... refer to page 4-25 of the service manual.
If your question is for the copper head gasket in the kit.....all I can do is give you a bump. |
from Bill Blue on another thread:
"All of my big bore kits come with every thing you need to install it. You will need some gasgacinch or good gasket sealer for the base gasket. Use the stock Kawasaki service manual." Bill https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=30581 just wondering if anyone used something else and had no leaks???? |
there are lots of good gasket sealers available. Locktite makes a few, check them out at an auto parts store near you..

I believe Bill recently changed to a better gasket that doesn't require sealer..some sort of stainless mesh or something to that effect.

That's the head gasket - he's talking about the gasket between the base of the cylinder and the bottom end. You are right though, the new head gaskets do not use ANY sort of sealant - just put it on dry.
I did not use gasgacinch for the bottom one.. I didn't have it at that time. I believe I ended up using just a regular black hi-temp silicone RTV.. Though that's probably not the best to use - it's been on my bike for well over 6k miles with no leakage or problems. |
i'll try the speed shop tomorrow. Edelbrock sells a Gasgacinch, probably the same stuff with their name on it for a buck more.

You guys used a fancy gasket sealer on the base gasket under the cylinder?
Thats crazy. :D |
Just following the recommendations of the guy who sells the kit!
Do you think that is crazy? I would rather do the rebuild one time and follow the recommendations than have an oil leak (like some folks have reported) and have to do it all over again. SO,, yeah,, i'm crazy. |
