Default 299AHL vs throwing in a new OEM piston ?

OK, got this bike with 5700 miles and if you look at my cam journal thread its had some distress in its life.

I have an audible piston slap noise, most noticeable when rolling (I know, I know were not supposed to lug the engine) on the throttle from 4kish.

My main concern is reliability.

I just got the AHL 299cc kit in the mail and I have a OEM piston/rings enroute. When I open it up AGAIN I want both options. In the old days I would have just ordered a 1st over piston and had my buddy back in mn bore the cyl to the piston. So anybody have any luck getting rid of piston slap by just replacing the piston in one of these fancy chrome(?) Cyls?

And anybody have good/bad/other experience with one of these China built AHL kits?

I will mic the the cyl wall to piston skirt clearance of both to help decide.

Thanks.

Sorry I missed this post. I have about 400 mostly off road miles on the AHL 299 kit, no issues whatsoever.

OP, are you sure the noise is piston slap? Wasn't sure if you were aware of the cam chain noise that these engines can sometimes make.

pretty sure its not the cam chain. I had the auto tensioner, and I have ran the manual a bit too snug and a bit to loose just to try to troubleshoot it. No change. I have an OEM piston AND an AHL kit sitting here. Just need to find the time to pull it apart. Will give the rod bearings a good look too. My friend has inside gauges, my guess the orig cyl is within spec just for the reason is not a steel sleeve. I think its a cerma chrome or something similar. But that slap noise when I roll on the throttle at low RPMs is driving me nuts.
