2012 KLX250S performance after DIY mods

New 2012 KLX250S with 320 miles.

DG slip on - $149.99 on ebay - Loud at 98db.
Marcelino cam mod - $0
Airbox lid removed - $0
Dynojet kit - $56 - installed stage 2 as per instructions.

Notes : Other than above, %100 stock. Stage 2 seems to work perfect with airbox lid removed. 500 - 700 ft above sea level, %90 humidity, 100 degrees F. Bike starts instantly hot or cold.

Short video of the resulting performance: The clutch was not used to assist with the wheelies, just throttle.

should note that the rider is a grown man (6 feet tall and around 200Lbs), it was easy for him to do an acceleration wheely but I could not get it to wheely up for me (115 Lbs and 5,3 feet tall). Fun upgrade that everyone could benefit from!! quite impressed with the outcome! it is a completely different animal!! extra awesome for when it will be used as an off-road farm cycle!!

Just wanted to note, I have a '12 KLX250s (I purchased used, 100% stock w/1,200 miles on the odo). Following very helpful threads here I added the DynoJet jet kit (#128 main, needle and spring), FMF Q4 slip on muffler, and the larger Snorkel (KDX200 I believe). These mods really perked up the bikes power, not huge but opened it up with much crisper throttle response. Still needed and wanted more in chasing my young son around in the woods and fields... so "geared down", stock chain sprockets are 14 front, 42 rear - went to 13 front and 45 rear and new 108 link chain (more good info gleamed from this site). WOW!! Different motorcycle! Much more fun off road, picking through woods and gullies, hole shots and out of deep turns, yet still fine scooting around town or between trails on the two-lane black top. Can still pull to 80 mph,(and get there quicker) turning about 8,000 rpm instead of 6,200 rpm with stock gearing. If I were going on a longer road/dual sport ride I can drop back to the 14 tooth front easy enough, but will stay with the 45 rear. With all the other simple/bolt on mods (which I would have done anyway) the gearing made the biggest difference in the "fun" factor, particularity off-road.

Great info RexD, if/when your game, you could try the DJ 132 main jet with needle on 4th notch down and lid off - 132/4n + lid off at your elevation should give you another 1 HP - it is power you can feel..

Also, you could perform the Marcelino Cam Mod ( MCM ) . You probably know the MCM can be found in our stickies....

Just food for thought..

Don't worry MixxKLX, wheelies are more about technique than power. I can do some nice wheelies on my kids CRF70.

3.4x gear ratio - same as my 14/48 combo
