2007 KLX250S Tire Sizing
I am looking to pick up some new tires, current ones are non DOT motocross tires and I plan to do a lot of city riding, and some shorter stints on the highway. Right now I am looking at 50/50 tires like Kenda 270's and Shinko 244's as well as more of a 70/30 tire like Kenda K761's or Shinko 700's.
Stock tire sizes are listed as 3.00-21 and 4.60-18. What are the largest sizes that I can run? Can I run a 5.10-18 in the rear? 3.25-21 front? What are your guy's opinions on the tires I listed? I will be mainly doing city riding and some grid roads. Trails are kind of limited around here but I would love to get out and try to find some. I am not too worried about sacrificing on road performance for off road, so I am kind of leaning towards the shinko 244's. |
I have the 270's on the bike, the front is 3.25 and the rear is 5.10, they fit fine as long as the rear wheel isn't pushed forward all the way.
The wider tires slow down handling a little bit. I was going to go for more of a street tire, but I ride dirt in the summer, so I got the 270's. They do well on the road for a knobbie. Haven't tried the Shinkos yet, only on my 2nd set of tires. |
I just put on some...Pirelli Scorpions A/T...90/90/21...140/80/18...Love them.great on road, night n day...and I here not to bad on just hard pack/gravel Rd....but way better street, got them balanced and I know they are faster...

I vote for the shinko 244's
I just put a set on my bike and I love them so far. They are pretty good on the pavement and they rule on gravel, the front end no longer washes out on me. I can now fly around gravel corners without killing myself. Plus they are dirt cheap, I got two new HD tubes and two tires for $120. Also, I recommend just leaving your tires stock size, it just gets weird handling when you go bigger. Change your gears if you want higher cruising. |
The stock size is really the best as over size tires hurt handling and performance but might look good sitting in a parking lot on the kick stand.

I had a 4.50-18 K270 and and it was perfect. If you think you want 270's, go with something more aggressive on the front. The K270 front is not good off road. The rear was good everywhere.

I am going to get a set of 244's in stock sizing. Ill order early next week hopefully and post back here once I try them out. Anything will have better street manners than the knobby motocross tire I have on there now.

hey doms, any word on the ****co 244? I have one on the rear and it seems ok. now its time to replace the front and i'm thinking 244.
|
I just spooned a S244 on the front this evening. The rear is a 4.5 K270 that I really like. I've only had the 244 on the road but will say it was silky smooth compared to the cupped K270 front it replaced. It gets it's first offroading tomorrow AM. Sposed to be a cold rain, so I'll see how it does in the mud as well.

90/90/21 front and 110/100/18 rear for me runing ac10's not good for highway ther are basically a dirt only tire that got a DOT stamp sneaked onto them the oem tire is actually a decent mostly road some dirt tire

Yes, sorry I didn't update this. Tires were back ordered and took a while to get in. I changed them last weekend but I only have two rides on them. They are night and day difference on the highway. I really like them. I still have to try them out on the dirt. I wrecked the front tube changing the tires and tried patching it but it still has a slow leak so I am just going to pick up a new tube.

Thanks for the update. I just ordered a 244 and a msr heviduty tube for the front.
