2007 KLX250 - battery suggestions?

Default 2007 KLX250 - battery suggestions?

Trying to figure out a good option for battery replacement on my bike (tried featherweight lithium ion and it died in about 1yr's time). Does anyone recommend a lightweight gel/dry cell.. I'm wanting a sealed gel battery unless there are other suggestions

I went with a mighty max lithium iron phosphate. I bought for $60. I really like it. I had to remove the bottom of battery to fit into my 06 battery tray. It's just a plastic riser. I also had to buy a lithium charger. 20$

Li should last 10+ years. You either got a bad one, or something may be wrong with the charging system on the bike or plugging in. My lead batteries last 8 years, on average.

One has to use a Li Charger, if you use a standard charger for lead acid, it might have caused your problem lasting only one year. I use Li in all my bikes now, much better.

looking at a mightymax...

Li chargers? you guys are retrofitting the klx charging system for lithium or just using a 120v lithium to charge occasionally?

Li tender. The bike's charging system is unchanged. The bike doesn't know or care what battery is in there.

so the 120v wall charger cares but the bike does not? by going to Li, you really don't need to tender any more do you?

was initially looking at more battery power but realized my intake valves were out of tolerance...starts right up now so i am pausing on the Li battery.

Correct. The wall charger is much more refined! Li will hold a charge longer, but not forever, and if it goes flat, it is likely gone for good. I charge mine once or twice every year to keep them 100%. Your battery is connected to your intake valves? Never heard of that...

just trying to understand the how the wall charger fries a battery vs the bike. usually the bike does most of the charging and probably harsher on the battery than a wall charger.

anyway, yes, out of tolerance intake valves cause hard starting, excessive starter usage, and battery depletion.

You're way over thinking it. If you want to know details, take some electronics courses.
