2007 klx 250h

My bike wont whirl over sometimes. I will have it in neutral the neutral light is on I click the start button the solenoid will click and starter motor wont move so I put the bike in gear and rock in back and forth until the engine turns some then I put it back in neutral and most of the time it will start.

Any ideas on why it clicks and not starts?
Is my starter motor done?
Poor wire connection?
Could my started not disengage when I start the bike so it dont got room to build up speed befor ingageing like it should?

Have your battery checked or use a booster/jump next time it happens to see if the battery is shot...

.

My battery is brand new and when I press the start button the lights dont die out. So the battery is good. When I rock the bike back and forth in gear then put it back in neutral it will whirle over and start most of the time

Maybe an issue with the neutral switch?

I'm not sure I'm thinking so but the neutral light is on when it will and will not start and when I put it in gear the neutral light shuts off like it should. When It it wont start it clicks and the neutral light stays on.

Sounds like loose battery terminal. Have you checked the battery connections? Check the ground at the frame maybe corroded or loose.

I would look at the starter brushes/armature. Clean them all up and make sure the brushes are in good shape. Sounds like that or a dead winding in the motor.
You could hot wire some kind of bulb or VOMeter onto the wires going into the starter to verify it is getting juice too, If it ain't it's something else, if it is I would look at the items listed.
It could be the gear switch, kill switch, or kickstand switch, maybe the clutch switch, but if it's in neutral that is out of the loop I think.

I was thinking of this and my bushing on the case for the starter idler gear went bad and the starter would lockup sometimes. You'll have to pull the case cover to see. I posted pictures on the forum when it happened to me about 8 yrs ago.
Symtoms was sometimes it would work, sometimes I'd hear a big clunk and starter wouldn't spin. I put it down to over use as I used to turn it off and restart alot on the trail.
