13t Front Sprockets that Fit 2020 klx 250
 

I am looking for suggestions for a 13t front sprocket that fit the 2018 and newer models of the KLX250. I bought a 2020 about a month ago. It is my first bike and I've been mostly trail riding and I find it lacks a bit of power down low when I really need it. I've been told the 13t would help quite a bit for off road use.
However I'm not really sure what I am supposed to look for to ensure it fits. Any suggestions or knowledge in how to know if a particular sprocket will fit is a big help.

Do a Google search for KLX250 countershaft sprocket 13T then pick where you want to buy one. KLX250/300 all the same since around 1994. Problem solved!

Yep I don't know if any other models cross over, but its so easy to find the KLX sprocket why bother. Just get one for the bike. Have a good summer.

Just put the 13 tooth on my 2018. Bike feels a lot better too me, both on and off road...be prepared for struggle busting the nut loose. Ensure you have the lock washer good and flat, and don't give up...lol..cheers

Next up is a 47T rear sprocket and a 108-link chain and the bike/gearing will be solid offroad and onroad for short commutes of less than 65mph. I just picked up a 2020 in April. Good luck!

I went from 13 /42 to 14/48 and find it about perfect for me. I also had trouble getting the nut off. Had to slide a steel bar through the rear sprocket above the swing arm so that the sprockets were locked. And then needed a long bit of box section tubing on the end of the spanner to get enough leverage to break the nut free. All the time wondering what was going to break first!

What length chain, (how many links), is required for your 14/48 combination? How do you find it for the tight technical situations and highway RPM?

I think it is 108 links. The replacement chain I bought came as 120 links and I reduced it to the size I needed to fit. If you do a lot of road then maybe better to just stick with 13/42. But I only do road to get to the dirt, so don't mind sitting at 7500 rpm at 100kph (60 mph) getting there. I also tried 13/48 but was way too low gearing both on the road and in the dirt. The good thing about 14/48 is that you can also go 15/48 that is the same as 13/42, and will work with the same chain. I haven't tried that combo yet, but others have and it will fit with the same chain.

Tight technical, 14/48 is great. With the great low down torque after doing the MCM, you get away with a higher gears. Where I would have been in first in really tight or steep stuff, I can now use second. third instead of second etc. Which also helps to be faster as you have more of a speed range.
