'13 KLX250s Highway Gearing?
Hi, I have a 2013 Kawasaki KLX250s and I have 7000 KM on it, (In 4 months :p) and I recently looked at my sprockets and said "Of sh*t time for a change!" and also realized I use the bike so much on the highway and not on trails, so I wanted to buy new sprockets, but for highway/city use. The bike revs up to 6000 at 90 km/h on the highway and that's a bit high .. What gearing would be good for highway use? If you were to forget offroad and trail riding ; Thanks!
|
The stock counter sprocket is 14 tooth. I use a 15 tooth since I do mainly street riding. A few weeks ago I did some trails and had plenty of torque with the 15t too.
If you want more specs on the gearing check out this site. Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator |
15t is great on the highway and around town. It is great with the BB, never tried it stock bore. Getting the stock sprocket off will be the hardest part.

+1 front and +1 rear is a perfect combination...or, -2 rear

You wore your sprockets out in 7000km? What kind of chain lube?
|
chain lube? what's that?
On a serious note, that is an early wear out. You ride in lots of sand and rain and mud and grit or something? Or keep the chain too tight? |
My chain came VERY tight from the factory... I'm guessing that was the issue here as well. That's WAY too soon to be wearing through sprockets.
For road only, a 15t is probably fine. |
Thanks for all the answers! I wore out my sprockets a lot because this was my first ever CLUTCH bike so at the beggining I was really hard on it, and now I still drop the lever clutch, and also, for a while my chain was so loose, but I could never find time to tight it working 7 days a week :s
So, for highway and street, I should go 15t front and -2 rear? I just want to be able to hit 100 KM/hr without being at 7000 RPM.. Thanks |
Just replace the counter sprocket to start with and see how you like it. You should have no problem getting up to 65 mph.

just 15t front should suffice...but, going +1 rear will help...
