'09 KLX250SF Bad Gas Or Something Else?

I worked on my bike one day and moved some stuff around under the seat:

I wasn't paying attention and ran out of gas, so I grabbed a gas can and filled it up about halfway. I think the gas may have been bad because after riding it for a few minutes, the bike was misfiring like crazy and then it finally died. It was backfiring, flames were coming out, and there was a bit of smoke while I was trying to restart it.

I drained the fuel, emptied the float bowl, cleaned the jets, and it seemed to be running ok while it was idling. Once I rode it for a few minutes, it began misfiring again and died. Was it possible that I ruined the bike some other way? I don't think the spark plug went bad because it will run until it's warmed up then it goes crazy.

I need some help, this is my daily driver over the summer and I can't get it to run correctly

Your choke may be stuck on.

Did you jet for the A/C when you pulled the airbox?

Bazzy 08-10-2011 08:21 PM

Well I jetted for the pipe and box mod and it was a bit rich. Once I removed the box, the bike ran better for several days.. the only thing that changed was I relocated some stuff which I couldn't imagine caused the problem. Im positive it was the old gas I ran

You may have to clean your carb if the gas was real bad, maybe spray some cleaner thru it running. with your under seat mods getting at the carb is a piece of cake.

I pulled the plug and im not getting a spark.. Suggestions? Checked wiring, it all looks good.. I didn't change anything, just moved stuff. And pulling the carb is still pretty tough with the tank on

Kick stand kill switch, the wire runs up where you were working and you may have pinched one.

Or you could of fouled the plug.

I checked the plug, it was fouled and I didn't have an extra so i used fine sand paper. I put it to the frame and turned the motor over a few times but didn't get any spark.
