06 vs 07 vs 08 model yr klx250s
Howdy...new to the forum. Finally decided on getting a klx250s, will be making the puchase at the end of July. Was looking to buy a used 06, but they seem pretty rare and are going for as much as a new 07. The 07's are going fast, but I haven't heard anything about the 08's. I know the differences between 06 and 07 are minor cosmetics, can anyone tell me about the changes to the 08? My local dealer is nothing short of worthless (if it's not in the brochure they tell me to check the website...real helpful!)

Hey Fireroad, welcome to the site, trust me you will love the bike. Where are you located and what do you do for work? ;)

Of course we're all biased here, but you're making a great choice with this bike. I just bought a used '06 from a dealer where they also had an '07 on the floor, and I didn't even notice any cosmetic changes between the two. That doesn't mean there weren't any, I just didn't notice them. ;)I'd be curious to hear if anyone knows anything about the '08 yet.
Search for my previous posts if you want details on what I paid, etc... Good luck! |
RE: 06 vs 07 vs 08 model yr klx250s
deej - I'm a wildlife biologist with the Forest Service. I call Boise, ID home but I'm currently on a detail to another Forest in NM. I'll probably end up down here permanently and want a DP for exploring the old logging roads and commuting during the week. You can ride pretty much year round (comfortably) in NM.
So nobody heard anything on the 08s? I'm trying to figure out if there will be a change that's worth the wait. If the 08 KLR is any indication, a real sharp plastic upgrade may be just around the corner. Is the third model year too soon to make any real changes? Heck, I know I won't hold out, just hate to buy something one year and it get's redsigned the next! |
RE: 06 vs 07 vs 08 model yr klx250s
That's cool we have Forest Service areas all over where I live, and they are finally starting to fix some of the older roads that I used to ride on when I was a kid. The money hasn't always been there to do any maintenance but I guess it was our turn to get some work done here. I'm in Washington on the Olympic Peninsula, and we have quite a mix of National Park, Forest Service, DNR, Rayonier, and private timber as well as Tribal land. So you have to be up on where you can and can't ride, but basically if you can legally drive a car into the areas then we are good to go. I used to have a guy that worked for me part time, and was with the Forest Service for 34 years, he's the most interesting person I have ever met, sort of a local historian, an engineer and a great trail builder. I still keep in touch with him. He got out of the FS when they had an early retirement buy out and at the same time he was starting to get disgusted with the way things were heading. Anyway, as far as the 08 bike, who knows what will happen, but I hear you about buying something that is just about ready to change, but what can you do right? Good luck with the buying experience.

I would say that there is probably not going to be any major changes to the 250s for 08'. If anything kawi. is probably looking to replace the klx300 with an offroad onlykx250f based machine before they completly change the 250s. |
RE: 06 vs 07 vs 08 model yr klx250s
I'd bet the farm the KLX250S won't be changed for some time. Look at the KLX 300 for example, it's been out since '97 and it looks identical now compared to that first year. I agree with the last guy who said Kawi will focus probably on a real enduro bike KLX250 to replace the 300. This won't be a street legal bike though, just like a WR or CRF-X.
