***Epic Ride report***
So on Sunday morning I got a call from a friend in Port Angeles, he's one of the guys that I rode to Canada last August with. He said "hey lets meet in the middle and do some exploring. I said "you don't have to say it twice."
He drove 35 miles and I drove 23.5 and we met at the old Forest service work camp.
Here is the GPS file. I ended up with 138 miles for the day round trip. Here is the report.
Old work camp from the 40's
I got bored waiting for Garland so I started goofing off.
Brought all my tire irons..
And of course a tube.
Garland told me that back in the day, like 30 years ago, there was a State patrol officer that used to dive off this all the time.
30 minutes later Garland showed up.
So we headed up to the lookout. This is the same lookout that I rode up to the first summer I got the bike, and the second summer up here you might remember that there was a wedding going on. Like last year it was all foggy and so you had no view., but it made for some cool pictures anyway.
Passed this truck on the 9 miles ride up, same truck as mine!
Now keep this picture in mind, as I will show you a picture I took from the highway on my loop back home. This it the lookout. Its the same design I based my kid's playhouse in our back yard.
Well we came..we saw...and it was time to head down the back side of the mountain. There was a sliver of left over snow, and that was it. The elevation was 3000.
We wanted to explore that road just ahead, but it was tore up and dug out. Even a 4X4 ATV would have a tough time.
Ok I have to break this up in 3 segments. So see you in a minute.

Ok
There were several washouts, but getting by on the bike was still easy.
Down lower by the power lines. We coasted like 5 miles and shut off the bikes to save gas. Although I had 2 of the 33oz bottles and 1 22oz, garland had a 2.5 gal jug in one of the saddlebags that he shared with me.
Huge washout. This is looking up above the road...
This is looking down. It got pretty close to the power poles on one side.
Then a friend of Garlands met up with us on the salt water side at the Strait of
Jaun
Fuca
Stopping to enjoy the view. Garlands bike fell over and he picked it up before I could get a picture. I told him the fallen bike rules and pictures but he didn't get it.
haha
Shipping lane
It's simply amazing where I live. Where else can you go from your house, and cross 5 major rivers, head into the mountains, and end up at the ocean..all in an afternoon ride?
Group of bikes.
Ok
GO little Honda GO!
Getting into the single track
Surprisingly those saddlebags did very well. Although he did rip one of the straps when he dumped the bike.
Dang Google Spell Check, its all messed up, Disclaimer on the spelling. LOL One more set coming.

This is where things got a little above our skill level, and we also realized that this might have been the down hill way to go instead of the direction we went. So it was time to find other places to ride. And you know that pictures take out half of the steepness of what it really looks like.
Uhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaa about that.
Heading back down.....carefully
These are a little tricky going back down, and on a couple of them we had to ride out to the upper side and do a sort of three point turn. Not a good feeling, but we made it back down ok.
Strait view.
Headed back to the highway for some food!!! Stopped at the Blackberry Cafe, a newly remodeled place in Joyce on highway 112. mmmmm burgers....
You can't see it in that picture because I already ate it, but they give you a couple of fresh Blackberries.....
Loading back up, also at this point I had somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 miles to home, so I dumped in the 2 33 oz bottles from the camelbak and got one more picture of the place.
Garland and Doug headed back to Port Angeles and I took the cross road over to Lake Crescent, and then around the lake and home. What a great ride, the weather was perfect, the bike ran flawlessly, and nobody got hurt. Well unless you count the 3 grouse we almost ran over on the back roads.
Stopped for 2 more pictures, one of the lake...
And this one is looking up half way home from the highway, if you look real close you can see the lookout way up there. That is the one from the beginning of the report with all the fog.
Well that's it, 138 miles of absolute awesomeness!!
I had to add a couple more pictures from the first year I was up there on the bike, just so you could see what it looks like on a clear day. This is from the summer of 2006
Ocean on one side
Lake Crescent and the highway way down there. Sort of gives you an idea of the loop.
