Weatherproofing
Hey all...new here.
Ordered new KLR650, my first one. I will be putting the +10 windshield on since I'm 6'5". This will be my main vehicle, I commute in all weather, including snow, as long as the ice is off the road. I have a great suit for cold weather I've ridden with at -5*, but was wondering what else could be done, if any, to help keep elements off or less noticed for riding in bad weather. I ride a 1985 Suzuki SP600 right now, and have NO protection, as my windshield was broken off a couple weeks ago by a local pterodactylus....at least seemed like one......it was really just a low flying buzzard. So, any help on other adventure riding items and manufactures would be great, including luggage, tank bags, highway pegs etc. Thanks! T |

Saxman,
When if comes to luggage, there is only a single supplier that I use for the KLR650. It is a bit more expensive, but you certainly get a quality product that stands up to pterodactylus and just plain hard use. That manufacturer is Wolfman Luggage. You can reach them at www.wolfmanluggage.com. One of the products they sell, Tank Panniers, at least to me, provide a place to put your legs to get them out of the weather. When you set them up correctly, your knees fit right behind them, affording you some weather protection - not to mention guarding against those pterodactylus attacks! On my KLR650, I have the Wolfman Explorer Tankbag, Tank Panniers, Alfa Rear Bag and Duffle. I can just about pack the kitchen sink when I travel on the bike. They work good and should last a long, long time! With regard to highway pegs, I don't find them comfortable on the KLR650 - I'm too long. However, I find the most comfortable position for long distance riding is to hang your heels on the passenger pegs. This takes all the pressure off your lower back. Give it a try. I'm kind of lucky in the fact that I wear a size 14 boot. I can span the footpegs / passengers pegs, almost like having footboards on the bike! Hope this helps. |
RE: Weatherproofing
He Marty....sounds good to me. I checked the site out, looks like that could work out good. I usually put 30,000+ a year on, so I will need something that will last. As for the price...ya get what ya pay for, right?
Thanks for the info, helps a lot! Todd |
