Default Kl 600 overheating help

Hi all

I now have a 1984 KL 600 I have only just purchased the bike, it has covered 24k miles 6 owners and it is in very good shape for the year, starts fine even when left a couple of week (unlike my KL250) but rode it for the first time today and the temp gauge runs above the middle mark (the KLR 250 runs dead in the middle all the time) when I let the the 600 tick over the needle creeps up into the red zone.
Can anyone suggest what might be wrong ?

Regards Mick

Does the fan come on? Once the needle gets into the red zone the fan should kick in and cool things down. It sounds pretty normal to me unless the fan isn't coming on.
