No Battery

Hello all, i have recently got a '95 klr 250. And the battery seems to be no good, wont hold a charge at all. I'm wondering if it will damage anything by running it without a battery, and if it will run properly. I can't see the point in even buying a new one. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

:) BATTERY IS CHEAP, IF YOU HAVE THE OLD ONE USE IT, IT WON'T HURT IT.

I have a friend that has a 2003 KLR 250 that he's been running without a battery for 2 years now. No problems so far.;)

Thanks for the reply's. The only advantages i can even think of to having a battery, is having the lights on while trying to start it, and the neutral indicator, neither of which seem to be worth the expense, bother or weight. Maybe it needs a battery for a roadworthy, but there are no inspections where i'm from.

Do the blinkers, horn and brake light work? Not sure what the battery really does on a Kick start bike. I thought it had something to do with the starting circuit.

Well, now you mention it, if i'm riding at night, i'll turn the blinkers on, or brake. and the headlight will dip right down. and the tacho will jump up. i figured it was a charging problem.

4 Attachment(s)
I personally would buy a new battery and keep it charged with a battery tender. All you have to do is wire in a 12v outlet and then charging the battery when not riding is as easy as pie.;)

Here is what I did.

I even have a quick jumper cable that I take with us on rides since neither bike has a kick starter.

Thanks for the pics, and i can see what you mean. it sure looks like a serious set up. But i just don't get it with my bike, with or without the battery, it still has the symptoms as above, so maybe it needs a new battery? or as a kick start bike, maybe it needs no battery at all? Do bikes generally need a battery to run properly? i have had a few bikes before with no battery, but none with lights. So this is new to me
