1984 klr rev problems.

Hi everybody!

1984 klr250. We got it a couple weeks ago. Changed the oil.

She was working fine until all the sudden she wouldn't idle.

Got her home and tried to get her to idle but after a few attempts she stopped starting altogether.
Changed the plug to an '8' temp (slightly hotter, but will work for diagnostic purposes while the replacements are on order), and cleaned the carb thanx to Scott_rides_again. She starts now but doesn't rev passed 8k.

While putting it back in the bike I had to clean a bunch of caked on junk off the pictured nozzle. I couldn't figure out what it hooked up to. Anyone got any ideas? Word is it's just a vent tube. There's still all sorts of dirt in the nozzle as I've not cleaned it yet.

My guess is the PO didn't have anything hooked up to it and dirt eventually got in the carb.

Any thoughts?

I tried to get your link to work, oh well. I don't know about the carb, but I wonder if the KLR had a rev limiter back then? Although 8 grand seems low for limit. I would pull the carb again, get to a bench, lay down a clean toweland carefully take it apart, make sure to take pics of each stage, clean the jets, and try it again.Sounds like something is still dirty.;)

Sorry about the size, I should ahve saved it in my photobucket account, it re-sizes to 600 X 800 automatically. Anyone got an idea what hose is supposed to be hooked up to that? Help a brother out.;)

My guess, is an air intake tube for the carb. But I could be wrong.

Deej, thanx a ton!!!

Why would it need another air intake, U think? If it's an air intake, I'm betting it's my problems.

I was going to put it on the bench, but couldn't figure out how to unplug the choke from the carb. Any ideas on that?

I'm thinking it's dirty and specifically it's a problem/clog with the main jet.
