My new KX450 has about 30 hours on the bike. Since the purchase Oct 2016 I have had 5 instances of the compression release not working. The Kick starter just wont move the engine. If I rock it in gear it will suddenly work. The first time it did it, I just kicked it like an old thumper which damaged the kick starter post and lever assembly, but started the bike. Kawasaki warrantied those items. It since happened on the starting line of a dead enging Hare Scrambles and last week again at a practice facility. I know not to kick it through since the kick starter is very fragile. I put it in gear and rock it a little until I feel it release. Very strange and even harder with the Rekluse clutch. We race most weekends and its always a dead engine start. I always worry that it will be engaged at the moment of truth. Any one know of this problem. We have several KX 250s, 2015,16, and just got a 17. They are always perfect in this area.
