Default Mule 3010 Trans Mule Front Hub Problems

What am I doing wrong. I end up replacing one front hub a year. The spline of the CV Shafts wears out in the front brake drum. I've tried NOS and Aftermarket but they don't last. It does have a lift kit, but mostly 2-track riding and no mud and water. Love the machine but going with another brand if this problem keeps up...thanks, Greg

Hi BuschDog ,
What Year ?
Early Models With drum Brakes , The (Front drums) the flange where the Axle seal Rides on gets hammered .
Check The Spacer/ Sleeve Between the two Front bearings For correct length ..
There is A SHIM that goes between the out-board bearing and the drum / hub .
DO NOT USE A IMPACT !!!!! Use A Torque Wrench !! Too Easy To over Tighten These Bearings !!!
You Mentioned it has a """ Lift KIT """ Sorry ,, GET rid of it !!!
If it Has The Spacer Blocks Installed On The Front Struts And The Longer
Shackles For the Rear Leaf Springs , """ GIT RID OF It !!!!!! """""
Ok ,, Sorry For Yelling ,,, Why ,, The " Kit " Puts The Driveline / ( All Axles ) In Severe Angles / Binding ....
Solution ,, Replace Front " STRUT Springs " Only With Factory
Heavy Duty Strut Springs ( In optional Parts List )
These Will Give you a little More ground clearance (((( From Stock Height,
Remember ! that The "mules DO NOT Have a Lot Of Ground Clearance
Verses Other Brands ))) ..
Sorry , BIG Wheels And Tires ,,,, No Good !!! ( Look Cool ) ,,,But
Again Too Much Stress On The Driveline !!!!
Just Saying .....
Later,
Mark K.

Thanks for the reply. I bought it with the lift already done but I suspected that might be part of my problem. It is a 2007.

Hi buschdog ,
The Company I work For has ( 9 ) Nine of these .. All Trans 4X4 Diesel's .
Some just green , Some Are Camo'D . One Full Steel Cab .
The " Camo'd Ones Have Just About Every Option you can get ...
These Camo'd All Had Lift Kits , Extra Large Wheel/tires (( LOOKS COOL ))
BUT !! Broken U-Joints , CV -Joints Click'n / Banging Noise ! , (2) Front
Diff's Locked Up !! ( The Front Diff. Have a " limited-Slip Clutch pack Inside" ) ... One Tranny- Broken ( High Range / Gear Teeth -_- SUM - ;( ..)
Rear Axles Shafts Partially Cut In Two by rubbing on the Rear Axle Housing . The Drive Belt's -- Burnt ! / A Couple with clutch troubles .
Wheel Bearings ,, ( I Asked My Boss To Them By The CASE ! )
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$ !!

Sorry , WhAAAAAAAA , Cry / Sniffle .........
Oh , My " Stock Mules ??? " Better Than A TIMEX-Watch !!! !!
Ok , To Cure the Problem ??
1, Take OUT ALL The " Lift Kit's ! " ,, 2 , Install The " HD Front
Strut Springs , replace the " Bump Stops " On the Struts with Factory
New One's , ( The After-Market ,, urethane , Too Hard / Broke Struts ) .
The Rear End ? ,, Put The STOCK LENGHT Leaf Spring Shackles Back In !
Adjust/ Add Two (2) Clicks On the Rear Coil - Over Shock Springs .
Done !!!!!
Wheel / Tire Combo ??? Problem ? A Larger Tire Diameter
( I'm Taking The Overall Diameter ) Changes The Gear Ratio So Much
That The Drive-line Exceeding Max Stress Limits . OH, Suspension Bottoms OUT,, Oh, What Happens When You That " Big Tire Hits On the Inner Fender SNAP !!!!!! $$$$$$$ ..
Solution ; Get The Fancy Wheels, Try to Keep that " Overall Dia . Of The
Tire Close to stock Dimensions As Possible ....

Just Saying , These Are set up For " Rock Crawling / Low Speed stuff "
I Had One Bosses Ask Me To Make IT ( HIS Mule ) Go Faster !!!
I Said " GO BUY A RAZR "" !!! HAHAHA !!!!

Thanks For Letting CRY ,, I Feel Better Now
Later ,
Mark K.

Default Brake drum / WB torque

"Don't Get Pissed Off !! Get A Service/ SHOP Manual !
Save A Wheel Bearing(s) ,Use A Torque Wrench !!
Some Thing Burning ? Who Let The Blue SMOKE OUT ?????"

The manual I found on line (waiting for the paper to come in) has this spec: "Drum Press-fitting Force (Torque)Service Limit: 20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 14 ft·lb) " When this is converted into FT LBs it is 14.5 & 14.75 FT LBs more or less. I've seen other listing that said 145 FT LBs !!! I did 15 FT LBs for good measure. At what torque are you setting the front axle nut ?? Thanks Harley
