900STX is not really a hi-performance oriented machine due to its large mass even though its engine is a direct decendent from 900ZXi. It is more of a family oriented cruiser. In order to gain substantial acceleration (a=F/m), you have to modify quiet a few things. Replacing exhaust only would make your engine run too lean or would lose complete bottom end which you don't want to do on a 3-seater unless you run near 7000 rpm all the time. The factory impeller is already stainless steel. So use it until you need a new one. Changing to different pitched impeller would not gain you much either. It would either cavitate or engine would not rev to its max as it used to. Stock 900STX (I had its big bro 1100STX) is already a nicely set up ski in a factory stock form (other than finicky cold starting problem). Use a good quality 2-stroke marine oil and always keep your senses in alert mode inside the engine compartment for anything unusual - smell, leak, noise, etc. Just simply take care of the ski while you are using it and AFTER you use it, then it will take care of you for a long time.
