My cousin has a 95' STX1100 that has engine problems. It has a burned piston with a hole in the center. The repair shop quoted him $1100 for an engine, $300 for shipping, and $600 for labor.

1) How hard is it to rebuild the engine?
2) How much does a rebuild cost (worse case scenario)?
2) Where can I find an engine for replacement?
3) How difficult is an engine swap?

I have mechanical skills and tools, but no jet ski experience. Thanks for any help!

 

Apparently my cousin's wife didn't know the year and guessed it was a 95'. It looks like they started making them in 97' so it must be a 97'.
