I have a 1997 750 ss that will not start. It clicks one time when I hit the starter. It seems like something is locked up. We ran it all season with no issues until time to be winterized. Battery is good. It wasn't the starter because I replaced it and had the same problem. I was told it could be the "Starter reduction gear". I'm new to jet skis and any help would be appreciated.

 

It could be the starter gear. You would have to remove the stator cover to be certain. I've cleaned them up and lubed them and had good luck reusing them. At least at this point you would be able to tell if it's a more costly issue or not by turning the engine over by hand after the starter gear is removed.
