1994 super sport xi 750 damaged impeller
We have a 94' super sport xi750, just bought. Ran great 1st 2 times out and got up pretty fast. Last time out the rider was in very shallow water and ate a bunch of rocks and mud. She said she heard a loud clanking noise from the bottom. I checked it out and of course the impeller is all bent up. Took it out for a spin and will only go slow to medium speed. If I try to punch it the RPM's go way up and I go no where. Am I correct in thinking that this needs a new impeller and or do they repair them like they do boats? I have already taken the jet pump assembly off the hull and drive shaft.

Any ideas how to take impeller off the jet pump? Looks like coupling inside middle of impeller, where the drive shaft goes into. Don't want to damage. is there a special tool I need?

Welcome to KF!
Sorry I cant help ya, if you need a special tool the manual will mention it, otherwise take the bent impeller into the shop and see if there is anything they can to with it. You might have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Looks like she owes you big time :D |
Yeah you need an impeller removal tool, its a splined bolt that goes in you take it off with a spanner
You could get your impeller repaired but it sounds to me like its pretty much in a bad way.. there are plenty of aftermarket impellers you might be able to pick one up for that ski on ebay though at a lower price (they not cheap brand new) prices for brand new stainless steel ones are about 150 - 200 dollars.. |
Thanks for the input. I've been checking out the impellers on ebay. The only thing I'm not sure is that the impeller on the ski now has 5 blades and all the ones for the year and model I've looked at are 3 blades? Which is better?

my manual says that if you do not have the tool you can take the whole driveshaft out and clamp it to a bench vise carefully and put the impeller on the driveshaft and then turn the bolt looking thing on the other side of the pump shaft counterclockwise. that may save you time in trying to find the special tool. the only thing is you have to remove the motor to get the driveshaft out. it is not that bad though i had to do it twice.

Sounds like a hasle to me but if it gets you back on the lake...
