3 Different Perspectives

A software engineer, hardware engineer, and departmental manager were on their way to a meeting in Switzerland. They were driving down a steep mountain road when suddenly the brakes failed. The car careened out of control, bouncing off guardrails until it miraculously ground to a scraping halt along the mountainside. The occupants of the car were unhurt, but they had a problem. They were stuck halfway down the mountain in a car with no brakes.

"I know," said the manager. "Let's have a meeting, propose a Vision, formulate a Mission Statement, define some Goals, and through a process of continuous improvement, find a solution to the Critical Problems and we'll be on our way."

"No," said the hardware engineer. "I've got my Swiss army knife with me. I can strip down the car's braking system, isolate the fault, fix it, and we'll be on our way."

"Wait," said the software engineer. "Before we do anything, shouldn't we push the car back to the top of the mountain and see if it happens again?"

Wonderful! My father was a manager, and he talked liked that when we were younger. We were always creeped out.

That's funny. Somewhere a few years ago I saw two cartoon drawings. There was a stagecoach stuck in the mud, that was the problem. Then two solutions were shown. The normal solution was to get a couple more horses to help pull out the stagecoach out of the mud. Management's solution was to get 3 more guys up on the seat with whips hitting the one horse to get it to pull harder. I wish I could find that picture again. If anyone knows or had seen that and can tell me where I could find a copy I would appreciate it. It was funny and so true to life.[8D]

Aw man, that's 3 strikes against me!?!! (I'm trained in mechanical engineering, but I'm an information system architect where I have to integrate hardware and software.)

Ok, I'm making an officially announcment:

Never trust anything I say ... specially when I say "trust me"!!!
So, just to establish some degree of social acceptance when I'm in public, of the 3 professions, what should I tell people that I am? (Please say "Mechanical Engineer"! Please! Please! Please!)

Of the 3, Mechanicals are the better.

I really cant say anything, I got an Electronic Engineering degree! LOL Its only an associates though so technicly I am NOT an Engineer. If I where to go back into school for engineering, it would be as an ME.
