1998 ZX7R. Why does the fan stay on after the bike is off?

 

The fan is controlled by the thermostat. After a ride, when the temp is high and having the fan run after shut down keeps the heads from warping or other. Not a bad thing to have the fan run after shut down.

Follow up question. I understand that the thermostat is wired hot with the key in the off position so that the fan will cool the coolant in the radiator with the engine off but does it really make a difference since the water pump isn't running? It may give a little air cooling but not enough to make a difference and without it moving the coolant I don't really see the point.
